Tempranillo Wine La Virgen AKA Pagos de Viña Real 2020 is an exceptional single-vineyard Tempranillo from Viña Real. One of Rioja Alavesa’s most distinguished estates. Grapes are sourced exclusively from the La Virgen plot. A 2-hectare parcel of 40-year-old vines rooted in clay soils with river pebbles, nestled at the foothills of the Toloño mountain in Labastida.

South-facing and shielded from the northern winds, the vineyard enjoys warm, sunny days and cool nights during the crucial ripening months of August and September—conditions that enhance acidity and preserve aromatic complexity.

Harvested by hand into 20kg crates, the grapes undergo a double selection before fermentation with native yeasts in small vats. Gentle punching down and a brief post-fermentation maceration precede malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, where the wine matures for 12 months with regular bâtonnage.

The result is a textural, elegant, and age-worthy Rioja of outstanding balance, depth, and typicity.
