THE GOVERNOR: HEALTHY HIGH PHENOLIC EVOO FROM CORFU
The Governor Premium unfiltered Greek extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is an exceptionally healthy high phenolic EVOO. CULTIVATION AND PRODUCTION OF THE GOVERNOR EVOO
The Dafnis family’s olives are grown in a family grove planted by their ancestors near the village of Agios Mathios in the protected Natura 2000 area of Lake Korission in southwestern Corfu. The family has complete control over the entire production process:
- cultivation and early harvesting in their groves
- prompt cold extraction with the modern 2-phase centrifuge in their mill
- storage and bottling in their standardization unit, Olive Fabrica
In that HACCP and ISO 22000: 2005 hygiene-certified factory, their distinctive hand-decorated 500 ml bottles are filled by hand. Throughout the entire process, the temperature is kept low to protect the healthy antioxidants that could be destroyed by heat.

Scientific tests of 700 olive oil samples from 30 olive varieties from 12 countries were conducted at the University of Athens in 2014. Results showed that The Governor was one of the healthiest olive oils worldwide due to its impressively high concentration of phenolic compounds (also called polyphenols).
For example, the level of the polyphenols oleocanthal and oleacein in The Governor EVOO was seven times higher than the average of the samples tested in 2014, and the oleocanthal level was the highest recorded from a commercially-available bottled olive oil since 2009. This means The Governor can offer significant health benefits, because these phenolic compounds and others found in The Governor have been associated with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective effects.
In addition, the polyphenols in The Governor that are mentioned in the European Union’s health claim for olive oil were 61% higher than EU Commission Regulation 432/2012 required. That implies that daily consumption of 20 g of this EVOO protects blood lipids from the oxidative stress that can damage cells, tissues, proteins, and DNA, leading to many serious diseases.
